The ability to push through adversity and come out the other side allows you to not only elevate your status as a business executive, but it helps build confidence for future tasks you must handle. Consistency helps lead to determination. By remaining consistent in business, you’ll build success and discover new ways to hold you, and those around you, accountable for this success. In fact, there are many links between consistency and becoming successful in business.

Measure the Data for Success

Whether working online or within a brick and mortar location, analytical data is important. The more information you have, the easier it is to look for patterns and possible lines of success. If you only carry out an activity or perform a task once, you don’t have anything to compare it to. You need consistency to measure success and to see if what you did happened to be a one-time success or if the failure is an anomaly. Remaining consistent gives you measurable data to determine how effective a given task is. From dealing with marketing to a sales pitch, it is essential to carry out a task more than once.

With the data derived from consistency, you have the ability to then take the analytical information and pinpoint your next move. You can take what is working and cut loose what isn’t. In the world of business, you need to continue your education. However, without consistency, continued learning (at least based on your own actions) may prove challenging. So, develop consistency, learn from it and build from it.

Build Company Relevance with Consistency

Are you just starting a business? If so, you’ve probably found building the company’s status and even relevance is rather difficult. With so many other service providers out there, how can you grow your brand and establish yourself in the field? Consistency. At first, nobody will take notice. You’re new and nobody is looking in your direction. That’s just part of the game. However, with consistency, you can slowly find solid footing and begin to push into the marketplace.

There are several ways to build company relevance with consistency. First, you need to create a consistent business practice. One of the biggest mistakes new company owners make is continually changing their appearance and the services they offer. Have you ever seen a restaurant constantly changing its appearance and drastically altering its menu in hopes of luring in new customers? This almost never works because it doesn’t give patrons the chance of discovering the restaurant. Your business should not change tactics continually due to this exact reason. You have a dream and a product or service you want to offer. Stick with it and remain consistent. This way, potential customers can discover you.

The same consistency is required for advertising and for working online. Building an online presence is vital towards your company’s longevity. However, posting to social media once every few weeks isn’t going to grow your brand. Instead, stay active and consistent. If you have a blog (you should), post to it routinely. The only way you’ll generate any kind of relevance and grow your company branding is to stick to a schedule.

Everyone Becomes Accountable

Consistency doesn’t just mean putting on the same advertisement for several months to see if it works, or conducting a similar sales pitch to new clients to see if results are desirable. Consistency includes how you run your office. Consistency creates a routine, which helps your workers. Do you need sales reports? Request the reports for the same day of the week. In need of status updates for your company? Have this information brought to you at the same time, whether it is weekly, monthly or quarterly. This not only establishes a routine for your employees but it develops a level of accountability.

Everyone within the office, from the janitor to you, the head of the company, needs to be held accountable. However, if an employee doesn’t know what is expected of them, it makes it difficult to hold them accountable, or for the employee to meet set goals. Consistency gives employees accountability, not only to you, but also to each other. So, establish consistent routines within the office. It helps generate results while identifying weak links you need to remove from the company.

Consistency Defines Roles

Whether you work with a single employee or hundreds of workers, consistency helps define the roles of everyone. The sales member knows exactly what they need to do and how it relates to other members of the sales staff. Marketing understands what is expected of them and, in return, can provide improved advertising to assist with sales. Everyone has a clearly defined role thanks to consistency.

What happens if you suddenly decide to shake everything up? From time to time it is necessary to give an additional task to someone who can handle it. However, if you remove consistency from your business practice and for workers to carry out tasks they are not accustomed to brings productivity to a crashing stop. Everyone has their fit and they know what they need to do.

Suppose you took a football player who has practiced as a linebacker his entire career. It’s what he does and knows. Through consistency, he’s learned the position and had the ability to build off of what he’s learned playing linebacker. Now, remove him from the position and turn him into a quarterback, without practice. What he has learned through consistently playing the same position goes completely out the window. His defined role on the team is gone and, because of it, everyone else on the team will struggle as he fights to learn the new position requirements on the spot.

The same is true with your own team members. Clearly defined roles help build consistency for your employees. The moment you decide to switch it up with one employee, everyone else working for you may suffer. Allow your workers to grow into their defined tasks and learn from their defined tasks. Doing so not only helps your employees thrive, but it helps your business improve as well.

Consistency is Key to Customer Service

As your business grows, you’ll see an increase in returning customers. They come back to your company because they know what to expect. Without consistency, they won’t know what’s coming their way, and in return, likely go to a different service provider. If a restaurant offered the same menu, but different cooks prepare the food differently, there is no consistency and patrons would not know what to expect from their food. Consistency keeps customer returning, regardless of the industry or line of work you’re in.

Consistency is also key to customer service. With your established consistency, your returning customers develop a sense of loyalty. They know your brand and what to expect. They tell others about your services and, no matter what, keep coming back. When a customer interacts with your employees, consistent customer service helps shoppers find what they are looking for. It also helps them feel comfortable with not only what you offer but also interacting with your employees. From sending emails to talking with employees on the phone, the consistency is key when it comes to maintaining a high level of customer service.

A prime example of maintaining consistent customer service is Starbucks. When a customer walks into or drives up to a Starbucks, they know what to expect, not only from the coffee, but also from the employees within the restaurant. They know their order will be taken quickly and the coffee will be ready in a few minutes. Because it is a fast coffee shop chain and very little direct interaction between employees and customers, patrons may not rate the customer service as out of this world, but customers of such a chain would likely say the service is consistent and they know what to expect.

Consistent Message

You need a clear message. All great companies have a clear, consistent message when advertising to customers. From Nike to Apple or Target toWal-Mart, the companies use simple, straight to the point messages consistently to reach its audience. Whether it is to save money, receive the highest quality product or achieve the best workout possible, a consistent message across all departments within the company helps maintain a universal message. This, in return, helps grow the brand. Growing the brand of any business is important, but it becomes especially essential if you own a small company and are looking for ways to grow.

Consistency is vital towards establishing business success. While this doesn’t mean performing the same failed activity over and over, it does mean you need to stay consistent to measure potential success. By staying consistent, you’ll give yourself more analytical data to determine what you are doing right, and what you can change to propel yourself into greater success as a business owner.
